Jaffna SF Command to open up Myliddy – Point Pedro bus service

Jaffna, 06 September, (Asiantribune.com):

Sri Lanka Army has initiated a plan to open up a bus service from Myliddy to Point Pedro, after a lapse of 27 years.

The bus service is to commence from Myliddy through Kankesanthurai, Keerimalai, Thondamanaru to Point Pedro.

When ‘Asian Tribune’ contacted the Jaffna Security Forces Commander Major General Darshanah Hettiarachi , he said arrangements are being made to open this bus service for the first time after a lapse of 27 years in the interest of the people of this area.

He said that they have contacted the Jaffna District Secretary to organize the bus service – SLTB, even private buses, to ply from Myliddy to Point Pedro.

He said the services would commence by the second week of September and Lt. General Mahesh Senanayake, who did most to Jaffna when he was SF Commander in Jaffna is expected to be here when the new bus service would be inaugurated.

Major General Darshana Hettiarachi further said, the new bus service would commence with the blessings of Buddhist, Hindu and Christian religious dignitaries.

‘Asian Tribune’ learnt that Myliddy to Kankesanthurai would be 3.5 km and the road from Keerimalai up to Thondamanaru, a stretch of 6 km road, which is at present under the control of the security forces would be allowed for this bus service.

The army control roads from Keerimalai would concludes 4 km before Thondamanaru.

V. Suthakar, Chief Engineer Road Development Authority, Jaffna told ‘Asian Tribune’ that RDA has already carpeted the stretch of road nearly 4.5 km from the last road point of the Army up to Thondamanaru.
