Ja-ela Bomb Plot: Minister Dassayake’s Killers Targeted a Key Senior Minister in the Government

Colombo, 14 January, ( LTTE did not target Minister D M Dasanayake. Inelegance sources who wish to remain anonymous told Asian Tribune that wayside bomb was meant for an important politico, a senior, Minister and a key personality in the Parliament. The alleged plotters as they waited allowed four ministers convey to pass the Tudella-Rukmani Devi junction on the Negombo Road that morning. Their target never turned up. Dissapointed, they decided to trigger the bomb when D M Dassanayake’s convoy passed that point.

Asian Tribune further learnt that a Tamil person working in the Parliament office, in the payroll of the LTTE when contacted by the plotters told them that he has just received the call from the intended target, the senior minister, that he will not be attending the parliament that day.

Intelligence source added that according to their information, it was the same Tamil source working in a key office in the Parliament who is said to be a double agent for a leading opposition political party, as well as with the LTTE, was involved in providing details about this important ruling party Minister’s movements to the LTTE.

According to the information provided by the mole planted by the LTTE he provided the information that the particular Minister would be traveling in a convoy from his home on the Colombo – Negambo road to parliament on 8 January morning.

Accordingly LTTE operatives was said to be waiting for their target. As the target was not sighted, the killer squad contacted and the Tamil double agent informed that the particular Minister has informed that he will not be attending the parliament as he was slightly indisposed.

Disappointed with the information they were about to wind up their operation but when they came to know D. M. Dassanayake, State Minister for Nation Building was traveling from Wyamba district in a convoy and was on his way to Parliament.

Once they heard the news of Dasanayake’s convoy, it was said that they waited for the convoy and triggered off the wayside bomb near Tudella – Rukmani Devi Junction, 6 km away from the Katunayake International Air Port, on the Colombo - Negombo main road, located in Ja-Ela, in the morning around 10.35 a.m., as the Minister was proceeding towards Colombo, to attend Parliament.
