It is music that can unite people

By S.H.Moulana

We know the continued rivalry between the two nuclear powers in SAARC over so many unsettled issues between them, which keep them apart. It can even break up the only association these countries of the region are in.

We thought sport will bring them closer but it kept them far apart. No we see music has become a real healing factor at least with the lovers of this magical art.

How much respect late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Mehdi Hasan commanded in India? Now we see Ghulam Ali and Rahat Fateh Alikhan are enjoying the same reception there.

Sadly these legendary artists failed to receive the same respect and regards in their own country, Pakistan.
We saw a highly popular artist Jamshed Sabri was gunned down in Pakistan couple of years ago for reason not known.

The Indian talent contests are open for all nationals and we saw young Pakistani talents featured very well for the past so many years.

These contests have produced some outstanding young talents from Pakistan namely Amanat Ali now a big name in both countries, Mussarat Abbas an up and coming ‘Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’ himself and Sujat Ali Khan who is extremely talented.

William Shakespeare said ‘If music be the food of love play on’ I earnestly hope both countries will make use of the ground made by these artists through their touching feats.

One other top class Pakistan artist who has won the hearts of Indian fans is Adnan Sami. Music becomes the good prospect, as we see it now, to bring the two neighbors to build up an excellent relation between them.

Plato said “Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.”

It can bring countries together too. Let’s hope for the best!
