International Award to President Maithripala Sirisena in recognition of his anti-drug campaign

Colombo, 04 January, (Asiantribune.com):

A special award offered in recognition of President Maithripala Sirisena's relentless campaign to eradicate drug menace, which is a major international problem, by The Anti Drug Non-Governmental Organizations Conference held in Macao in China in November 2017, was handed over to the President on January 2nd, 2018, at the Presidential Secretariat by Dr. Sarath M. Samarage, the President of the Federation of Anti Drug NGOs.

Eighty Seven NGOs representing 40 countries had attended this international conference which was held on 8th November 2017 in China.

At this conference, the international anti drug campaigners had highly appreciated President Sirisena's leadership for anti-drug campaigns, his decision making to eradicate drug and tobacco use in Sri Lanka by 2020, the efforts already taken by him to achieve these objectives, the steps taken to make people aware of the drug menace and to propagate Buddhist ethical values in the society.

Thalatha Athukorale, Justice Minister, Dr. Ravindra Fernando, Chairman, Drugs Control Council and Dr. Samantha Kithalawaarachchi, head of the Presidential Anti Drug Task Force, were present at the event held at Presidential Secretariat.
