Kugathas – The New Provincial Councilor

Jaffna, 27 January, (Asiantribune.com):

S. Kugathas of TELO has been sworn in as the new Northern Provincial Councilor.

The swearing ceremony was held yesterday at the office of the Chairman of the Northern Provincial Council, located at Kaithady.

Kugathas has been unanimously nominated by the Tamil National Alliance to the vacancy occurred due to the resignation of Emanuel Arnold, who resigned from his position as a Provincial Councilor to contest as the TNA’s mayoral candidate in the Jaffna municipality election.

The Chairman of Northern Provincial Council C.V.K. Sivangnam conducted swearing ceremony for Kugathas in the presence of Northern Provincial Councilors M.K. Sivajilingham and Vinthan Kanagaratnam.

The newly sworn in Councilor was also welcome by a couple of dozen of his well-wishers at the council’s chairman’s secretariat.

When ‘Asian Tribune’ contacted Kugathas he thanked the TNA leadership for having confidence in him to nominate as the Northern Province Councilor and said that his first priority is to allocate Rs. 6 million of his councilor’s fund and said with the assistance and help of his seniors, he would allocate that fund judiciously to organizations in the Vaddukoddai electorate.

It is learnt that Kugathas would participate in the next meeting of the provincial council scheduled for the month of February 2018.
