Appapillai Amirthalingam Statue unveiled!

Jaffna, 20 March, (Asiantribune.com):

The First Tamil opposition leader, Federal Party & TULF Leader late Mr. A. Amirthalingam statue was unveiled by current leader of the opposition & the TNA Leader R. Sampanthan MP on 18th March Sunday at his birth place in Pannakam, Chullipuram.

TNA Jaffna Parliamentarian E. Saravanapavan chaired the event. Illankai Tamil Arasu Katchi Leader Parliamentarian Mavai Senathyrasa garlanded the statue and delivered a talk.

Amirthalingham (26 August 1927 – 13 July 1989) was a leading Sri Lankan Tamil politician, Member of Parliament and Leader of the Opposition. Amirthalingam was assassinated by the (LTTE) Tamil Tigers.

TNA Parliamentarian & TELO leader Selvam Adaikkalanathan MP and Ilankai Thamil Arasu Kadchi Secretary General Mr. K. Thurairajasingam, Northern Provincial council Speaker C.V.K. Sivagnanam, STR Films Chairman Mr. S Thiyagarajah, Prof. Balasuntharampillai, Ilankai Thamil Arasu Kadchi senior Members Mr. Kulanayakam, Kanakasapapathy NPC Memebrs Sivajilingam, Kajatheepan, Paramjothy, Sayanthan, Kukathasan, Arnold, Jeyasekaram, currently elected Local government members and several others including late Amirthalingam's relatives participated.
