TNA Decides To Support PM In No Confidence Vote
Latest reports reveal that the Tamil National Alliance has decided to vote in favor of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on the no-confidence motion presented against him.
The party has decided to support Wickremesinghe on the basis that the latter's removal will hamper the constitutional reforms process.
A source in the TNA, who refuses to be identified, told ‘Asian Tribune’ that if by chance the no-confidence motion spearheaded by the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is passed, as the no-confidence motion is scheduled to be taken up in Parliament on April 04, then there would be a danger of Mahinda Rajapaksa becoming the next Prime Minister, which would be a threat to the Tamils and other minorities in the country.
Earlier, TNA MP M.A. Sumanthiran said that the TNA would have its parliamentary group meeting on April 2 and decide on its position on the no-confidence motion.
However, sources said already the party has advanced it date on the decision regarding it’s position about the no-confidence motion and it's decision has been already conveyed to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The TNA has 16 votes in Parliament, but MP Selvam Adaikalanathan, is currently on a tour in China as part of the Parliamentary delegation and was asked to cut short his visit and return to the country on April 1. He was earlier scheduled to return to the country on April 3.
In the meantime, according to a report, ‘without leaving the PM position Ranil Wickremesinghe has decided to face the no-confidence motion.’
The no-confidence motion, reportedly signed by 55 MPs including a state minister and two deputy ministers, is to be debated in parliament on April 4.
The joint opposition led by the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has leveled 14 charges against the Prime Minister and out of which 13 are all about 'Bond Scam' Presidential Commission Report.
Already, legal action has been instituted against those who were alleged in the Bond Scam Report and there was no legal action leveled against the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe as accused by the Joint Oppositions in the no-confidence motion.
