NIR Ministry Launches Infrastructure Projects in North and East at Rs.679Mn

Ministry of National Integration and Reconciliation has initiated several projects under Economic and Social infrastructure, such as development of Anchorages, Roads, Water Supply, Irrigation, Education Improvements, health and livelihood projects which are immediately required for successful Resettlement and Reconciliation in the North and East provinces.

The Ministry has launched these projects under the direction of the President Maithripala Sirisena, who is also the Minister responsible for the Ministry.

Projects with quick and high Impact Interventions have been selected based on a consultative process with the District and Divisional Officials, People’s Representatives and Community.

With regard to Jaffna District, the project initiated includes Establishment of Economic Center in Chavakachcheri for Rs.100 Mn, Palmyrah based Food Processing Center in Delft, for Rs.20 Mn, Reconstruction of Araly North Murukamoorththy Temple Road Rs.5.2 Mn, Development of Anchorages in Palaly North, Polikandy East , Arali Center and Urany amounting in to Rs.288 Mn, 2 story building at Karaveddy Vatharaniyeswara School at Rs 16 Mn, Grapes Cultivation for Rs.7.5 Mn, Net mending hall at Paasaiyoor for Rs.6 Mn, Fisheries Livelihood support for Rs.10.5 Mn, Renovation of Passenger Jetty at Nainatheevu for Rs.30 Mn, Construction of 2 story Ward Block at Divisional Hospital , Karaveddy at Rs 25 Mn, Health Facilities in Divisional Hospital at Rs.14 Mn said Mr. V. Sivagnanasothy, Secretary, Ministry of National Integration and Reconciliation.

In Mannar District 19 Mn has been allocated for Crab cultivation in Manthai West, Mannar Town, Fishing Center in Manthai West, Construction of Beach Roads, Supply of non-mechanized Fishing Crafts to Fishing community, beach road at South Bar Covering Mannar.

In Mullaitivu District Water supply with water tanks has been initiated at a cost of Rs.35.6Mn in Vadakkadu, Manthai East, Nanthakumaran Nagar, Thunukkai, Kichchirapuram, Maratimepattu, Neeravipitty- Selvapuram, Othiyamala-Oddusuddan and Issurupuira, Pandulupura, Sangabopura in Welo Oya.

In Vavuniya District, Metaling and taring work at Maravankulam Road for Rs.24 Mn and Reconstruction of Irrigation Tanks in Sengal Padaikkulam, Karukkaikulam, Mathiyamadu Sinnapoovarasankulam and other support Infrastucture such as medical equipments for RDHS for Rs 24 Mn, construction of science Lab in matharpankarmakilarkulam GTMS and other related project said Mr. V. Sivagnanasothy, Secretary, Ministry of National Integration and Reconciliation.

In Tricomalee District Rs.34 Mn worth of Road projects covering Maharugramam Tank roads, internal Roads from Main Road to Welgam Viharaya, Internal Road from Nelungama to Seruwilla Rajamaha Vihara

In Kilinochchi District Rs.20 Mn project has been initiated for Palmyrah based food processing center.

In the 1st quarter of 2018, these projects will focus to uplift the quality of life of IDPs, Returnee Refugees,Women Headed Families, Conflict affected Disabled, Missing Persons Families, Rehabilitated ex-combatants and those families which are under conflict affected poverty.

These interventions are seen as a healing and reparation programs which will help to economically empower affected people and build reconciliation and sustainable peace in the Country
