Vesak Day celebrations at Lankan embassy in Chennai

The Deputy High Commission of Sri Lanka for Southern India in Chennai celebrated Vesak Day at its Chancery premises, participated by the devotees from Sri Lanka and India on April 29.

The Deputy High Commissioner, Mr. V. Krishnamoorthy, warmly welcoming the gathering, said the Visak celebrations mark three momentous events in Buddha’s life—his birth, enlightenment and departure from the human world, and the Buddhists all over the world respectfully observed the events of significance of Buddhist traditions.

The Deputy High Commissioner said that it was the 2562ndVesak Day celebrations that is being glorified.

As part of celebrations, this Mission organised “Heel Danaya” for monks of the Mahabodi Society in Chennai, followed by an evening programme consisting of illuminating Vesak Lanterns, Bodhi Pooja, Vesak Bethi Gee and Dhansala for the participants.

Construction of a Vesak Pandal depicting ‘Sath Sathiya’ added more illumination to the celebrations.
