Jaffna, 19 June, (Asiantribune.com):

The policemen involved in the shooting of the 32 years old Tamil civilian V.Sutharsan, on Sunday 17th night, at the Sagaya Madha Temple located on the KKS – Jaffna Road, at Mallakam, in the Tellipalai Police area, yet to be arrested. It seems there is a degree of hesitancy on the part of the Police to arrest the policemen involved in the shooting.

Earlier, it was reported that Roshan Fernando, Senior DIG, Northern Province has told that the Police Officers involved in the shooting would be produced before the courts.

Unfortunately, up to yesterday, the policemen alleged to have been involved in the shooting were not produced in the courts.

It is learnt that Police hasn’t arrested the policemen involved in the shooting, as there was no orders so far forthcoming from the Magistrate to do so.

It was further reported that Mallakam Magistrate Anthonypillai Judson who visited the scene of the incident immediately after the shooting incidents said to have instructed the police arrest those involved in gang warfare.

Accordingly, Police has arrested two men who were admitted to the Tellipalai base hospital before the shooting incident and three others after the shooting incident.

Those three arrested after the shooting incident was produced before the Mallakam Magistrate and were remanded until 29th of this month.
