Army Commander’s Term Of Office Extended By Another One Year

Colombo, 12 July, (Asiantribune.com):

President Maithripala Sirisena, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces has extended the terms of office of Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army by one more year with effect from August 19, the Military Secretariat announced.

Lt. General Senanayake was appointed as the Army Commander on July, 4, 2017 and was due to retire on August 19, this year.

Lieutenant General N.U.M. Mahesh W. Senanayke, RWP, RSP, VSV, USP, psc is a senior Sri Lanka Army officer and a military engineer. He is the Colonel of the Regiment of the Sri Lanka Army Special Forces Regiment.

A veteran of all four phases of the Sri Lankan Civil War, he has served in both its Northern- and Eastern theatres.

Educated at Ananda College, Colombo, he is a graduate of the United States Army Command and General Staff College and holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Pune

Senanayake enlisted in the Sri Lanka Army through its 16th Officer Cadet Intake (long course) on 16 October 1981
