Political Parties Sent Nominees For Parliamentary Select Committee

Leading political parties in the Sri Lanka Parliament have sent in their names to the Secretary General of the Parliament, their nominees for the Parliamentary Select Committee.

It is learnt that, the Speaker Karu Jayasuriya will decide on the final composition of the committee as per the procedure.

Government group United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) has submitted the names of its 7 members to the Secretary General of the Parliament as nominees for the Parliamentary Select Committee.

Accordingly, UPFA MPs Dinesh Gunawardena, S.B. Dissanayake, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Mahinda Samarasinghe, Wimal Weerawansa, Thilanga Sumathipala and Udaya Gammanpila have been nominated to the Select Committee.

The United National Front (UNF) has sent five names as their nominees for the committee of selection, party sources said yesterday.

According to sources the five names included Lakshman Kiriella, Rauff Hakeem, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Rishad Bathiudeen and Mano Ganesan.

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) said it had submitted names of two MPs to the Secretary General of Parliament as their representatives to the Parliament Select Committee.

The two MPs are Vijitha Herath and Nalinda Jayatissa.

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has also submitted the names of MPs Dharmalingam Sithadthan and Mavai S. Senathirajah as its representatives to the Parliament Select Committee.

The Selection Committee, before the prorogation, comprised Karu Jayasuriya (Chairman), Rauff Hakeem, Lakshman Kiriella, Mahinda Samarasinghe, Rishad Bathiudeen, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Mano Ganesan, Dinesh Gunawardena, Douglas Devananda, Vijitha Herath, Mavai S. Senathirajah, Dharmalingam Siddarthan and (Dr.) Nalinda Jayatissa.
