Sri Lanka crisis worsens after President's statement

Colombo, 26 November, (Asiantribune.com):

Sri Lanka's ongoing political crisis has worsened on November 25 after President Maithripala Sirisena's firm statement to foreign media that he will not allow deposed PM Ranil Wickremesinghe to return to power even if Wickremesinghe's coalition proves majority.

"Even if the UNP has the majority I told them not to bring Ranil Wickremesinghe before me, I will not make himPprime Minister-Not in my lifetime" said President Sirisena.

Dealing another blow to Wickremesinghe, President Sirisena added a new Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) is on the cards to investigate misdeeds of Wickremesinghe government since January 2015.

Parliament is to meet on November 27 and 29 to discuss a motion by the UNP stop budgetary allocations by the government, which if approved, the Premiership of Mahinda Rajapksa will be severely threatened and all government spending from January 1, 2019 will also be stopped.
