Rayyan; a true patriot

By S.H.Moulana

'Sri Lanka's political crisis spurs tourists to cancel peak season' is Reuters' news but yet little Rayyan was not discouraged by this in anyway and went on regardless to take part in an international event in his school in Riyadh to promote countries the students represent.

Although as much as sixteen countries took part in this Rayyan was the only student from Sri Lanka and had to do everything including erecting a stall of his own.

He was grateful to the Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Riyadh for providing him the necessary literature on Sri Lanka.

Rayyan is eleven years of age now and he did a similar promotional event when he was as young as six years.

We see politicians doing lip service to patriotism twenty-four hours a day but very few we find with true patriotism in their flesh and blood like little Rayyan.

It was really beautiful to see how he displayed dozens of beautiful pictures of Sri Lanka on all four walls of his stall.

He served 'kiribath' a traditional Sri Lankan dish to all visitors to his stall while distributing small packets of our reputed tea to VIPs.

When asked what made him to commit to this work he said 'When my friends’ parents come to know about my country they will select Sri Lanka for their next vacation.'

His noble motive really impressed me. Let Rayyan be a role model for all!
