History Repeats - ITAK leadership continues with its deceptive agenda

By KT.Rajasingham

In 1965 Ilankai Thamil Arasu Kadchi (ITAK) under the leadership of S.J.V.Chelvanayakam supported Dudley Senanayake’s Government. Dudley promised ‘District Councils,’ but in the end Dudley disappointed the Tamils and Chelvanayakam.

Similarly, in 2018, again the 14 ITAK MPs under the leadership of R. Sampanthan has been supporting Ranil Wickremasinghe to claim majority and form a new government after being deposed on 26 October 2018.

Knowing well that deposed Wickramasinghe and UNF returning back to governance with other priorities rather than minority demands (prioroties such as getting economy back on track etc), their efforts to introduce a new constitution / constitutional reforms unlikely be in the forefront- And Wickremesinghe too cleverly played along with Tamils and recovered his PM seat which can even catapult him to the Presidency if incumbent suddenly steps down..etc.

Yet Sampanthan and the ITAK MPs have still supported forming a Ranil Wickremasinghe led Government.

The million-dollar question is why did ITAK, being aware of the possible betrayal of Tamils, still support Ranil who is clearly a political Machiavellian fox?!

..Or has ITAK been taken on another historic ride similar to 1956-Dudley Ride --though all the while ITAK innocently believing it is they who are taking Ranil on a ride ?
