Sri Lanka new Cabinet not tomorrow but Tuesday

Colombo, 16 December, (Asiantribune.com):

Sri LankSri Lanka's new Cabinet is to be sworn in not tomorrow (Monday 17) but Tuesday 18, according to political circles in Colombo.

After deposed PM Ranil Wickremesinghe was re-sworn in as the Prime Minister at the Presidential Secretariat this morning, appointment of the new Cabinet was expected during today or tomorrow morning session but latest reports say it would only take place on Tuesday 18.

The reason for the sudden slowdown is the behind the scene talks with regard to absorption of several SLFP MPs to the returning UNF government under PM Wickremesinghe. A number of SLFP MPs have requested President Sirisena' s approval to join the UNF government on individual basis if an SLFP-UNF coalition government they expect would not materialise.

At this moment PM Wickremesinghe is working to gain the approval of all UNP MPs on accommodation of these SLFPers and the portfolios to be allocated to them -and the Cabinet formation will not come unless PM Wickremesinghe completes this task with full acceptance of UNP and coalition partners, according to UNP sources.
