Sri Lanka's latest news service Thamillanka launched amid Thaipongal dawn
Bringing Sri Lankan affairs to the Tamil speaking world, Lanka E.Lanka Media (pvt) Ltd., led by veteran Lankan journalist KT Rajasingham unveiled its news service today (15) morning in Colombo.
The news service' web portal www.thamillanka.lk publishes latest updates on Lankan affairs in Thamil language.
"Thamil Lanka is named in such a way since we report affairs of Sri Lanka to the Tamil speaking audiences across the world in Thamil. This is not a propaganda tool for any political or ethnic ideology but a window to Sri Lanka's past, present and future in Thamil language" said KT Rajasingham, Chairman & CEO of Lanka E.Lanka Media (Pvt)Ltd., addressing the launch event on 15 January morning.
A senior journalist with more than 50 years' field experience, Mr Rajasingham is also the Editor of 'AsianTribune'.
The launch event was attended by Minister of Megapolis & Western Development of Sri Lanka Patali Champika Ranawaka.
A "You all have taken trouble to be here on the morning of this new year's day and this effort of yours encourages staff of Lanka E. Media in a multitude of ways. For Lanka E.Lanka Media (Pvt) Ltd., and it's staff, today is a historic day as we embark on our collaborative journey on media. Unlike many other media firms, we are beginning our journey at an interesting time. As you may have understood" said Mr Rajasingham and added:
"I am talking about this "Election year." Despite this atmosphere, our aim is to not just profit from elections and then close. We are here to serve Lankan audiences over the long term, and cater to their need for fresh news and updates. Our online radio, news web site, and facebook are our opening platforms only at start but we may not be limited to these only. Thamil Lanka is named in such a way since we report affairs of Sri Lanka to the Tamil speaking audiences across the world in Thamil, Rajasingham said.
He added, "This is not a propaganda tool for any political or ethnic ideology but a window to Sri Lanka's past, present and future in Thamil language."
Editor of Asian Tribune pointed out, "Since we talk about elections, we cannot avoid thinking that Minister Ranawaka who is with us here, can also play a bigger leadership role in Sri Lanka's future. I do not see why he can't enter the competition readily as he is seen by Sri Lankans of all ethnicities and religions as 'incorruptible and un-bowed.'
He further pointed out, "He also has been a frontline defender of democracy in the recent failed coup. Both local and international audiences saw this very clearly in media and I eagerly await his announcement to be a candidate in the Presidential election. I am confident that he will not disappoint us in this."
Addressing the Thamillanka launch, Minister Ranawaka praised the effort. "I am pleased to share the Thai pongal festivities with our brothers and sisters here. I wish blessings of the Sun God abundantly to all of you" he said.
