Chennai, 24 January, (

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Pazhaniswamy said on Wednesday that the response for GIM-2019, has far exceeded their expectations. Addressing the Global Investors Meet, he also said that proposals for new investments have been pouring in the last one year, since the preparation started for the GIM-2019.

Saying the primary objective of GIM-2019 is to showcase the opportunities in Tamil Nadu and attract investments, so as to retain the “Numero uno” position of Tamil Nadu, he recalled how the first edition of the Global Investors Meet 2015, organized by Amma (Jayalalithaa) was a huge success, attracting 98 investment proposals with an investment commitment of Rs.2.42 lakh crores. These projects had investment period ranging from 3 to 7 years. “As a result of our close and continuous monitoring, several projects have been commissioned and many projects are in an advanced stage of commissioning.”

Encouraged by the success of GIM-2015, his Government has organized the Second edition of GIM. “If the response we have received is any indication, GIM-2019 is not only a grand success, but will be remembered as a historic event in the annals of industrialization of Tamil Nadu,” the CM said.

The CM said “Our leader Amma had a vision to set Tamil Nadu on a high growth path and to secure the benefits of rapid economic growth to all our people” and quoted Jayalalithaa’s speech made on 22 March 2012 while unveiling the Vision 2023 document:

“In my dream I envision a Tamil Nadu where no youth remains unemployed, where Poverty is totally eradicated, where every citizen has access to all basic amenities such as health care, education, water supply and sanitation and above all, where all the people of the State enjoy prosperity, security and peace. I have a dream wherein Tamil Nadu emerges as the numero uno in all economic and social indicators and emerges as the Knowledge economy in the new millennium”.

Earlier Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman released a Tamil Nadu specific Aero specific and Defence Manufacturing Policy. The first copy was received by the CM. “Being dynamic is nothing dynamic to Tamil Nadu which had centuries ago established itself strongly on the defence front through the Cholas who built ships to establish trade and cultural relationship with countries like Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand and helping India grow,” she said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has special focus to bring essential systemic reforms to sustain 6.5% growth per annum. While Tamil Nadu is a well-balanced economy and is also power surplus state, the steps taken by the Centre have acted as a facilitator, she said.

Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha Dr. M. Thambi Durai, Deputy Chief Minister O. Paneerselvam, Chief Secretary Dr. Girija Vaidyanathan, Additional Chief Secretary, Industries Department K Gnanadesikan and others spoke.

Ambassadors, High Commissioners and Heads of Country Delegations and partner Nations–France, UK, Japan, South Korea, Australia and Singapore, Ministers, Members of Parliament and Assembly were among those present.
