All midwives vacancies will be filled with new graduates - WP Governor M. Azath S SalleySequel to a request made by the Government Family Health Services Association, GFHA, Western Province Governor M. Azath S Salley, pledged that all vacancies for the posts of midwives in his province will be filled with the new graduates who would pass out from the relevant training school in March this year.

A delegation from the Government Family Health Services Association, led by its President, Devika Kodituwaku, presented their grievances to the governor early this week.

Describing it as a useful meeting with the governor, Kodituwaku said Salley agreed to fill up all the vacancies in Gampaha, Kalutara and Colombo districts with the new midwives who would pass out from the training school this year.

She said the governor gave them a good hearing and promised to extend his fullest cooperation to carry their maternal and children’s care services in their respective areas.

The governor also instructed the Ministry of Health to give these midwives new uniforms and required facilities for the midwives to carry out their tasks confidently.

During the meeting it was also agreed to give the long overdue promotions to those who are eligible for their next level of office. The governor said that the matter can be referred to the Public Service Commission for their approval.

Considering the shortage of staff in the province, the governor also instructed the concerned officials to make use of the midwives who wish to work during their off day and weekend. “

They should be suitably remunerated according to their work load,” the governor said.
