SLIATE graduates can now apply for teacher vacancies in WP

Colombo, 10 April, (Asiantribune.com):

On a directive from the Western Province Governor Azath Salley, successful candidates from the Higher National Diploma in English course at the Sri Lanka Institute of Advance Technological Education (SLIATE), will now be eligible to apply for vacancies for graduate teachers in his province.

The announcement was made by Governor Salley following a meeting of a group of 60 SLIATE graduates, who made representations to the governor at his office on Monday seeking eligibility for the graduate teachers’ vacancies advertised in the government gazette for which applications close on April 18.

Higher National Diploma in English is being conducted as full time and part time with the duration of two and half years and two years respectively.

The full-time course has two-year course work and six months implant training in specialized fields whereas the part time course has course work for two years only.

It was brought to the notice of the governor by former Assistant Director of Education, A.B.M. Alavi, there is a dearth of English teachers in the western province and these vacancies have to be filled soon.

The aggrieved group also complained that the SLIATE graduates have been given teaching appointments in Uva, Sabaragamuwa, north central and eastern provinces but they are not considered for graduate vacancies in the western province.

In response to their request, the governor said any vacancies in the western province will be filled only by residents of the province and teacher vacancies will be filled soon since students cannot be allowed to suffer for want of teachers.

Salley said he has given top priority for education in his province and he is keen on enhancing the educational standards in the province.
