PSC to decide on CMC Commissioner's transfer - Governor Azath Salley

Colombo, 18 April, (

The Public Service Commission, (PSC), will make a decision on the proposed transfer of Colombo Municipal Commission V. K. Anura over the alleged irregularities, Western Province Governor Azath Salley said here on Wednesday.

The PSC is slated to meet today (Thursday) in Colombo for this purpose.

The governor was speaking to newsmen on Wednesday at his office as soon after he donated 20 sewing machines to deserving women in the city of Colombo. The machines were purchased out of the funds allocated for him when he was a municipal councilor.

Explaining further, the governor said three separate reports from the Presidential Commission, Auditor General and also from a special committee of inquiry appointed by him, have revealed that there were irregularities in the dealings of the municipal commissioner regarding the matters arising from the Meetotamulla garbage dump disaster.

“We have submitted all these findings to the Public Service Commission, which will meet tomorrow, Thursday and action will be taken accordingly.”

Answering a question about representations made by a fraction of the Colombo municipal council members, the governors pointed out that his office will show zero tolerance to corruption and those who are found guilty, will have to face the music.

The governor stressed that his office believes in fair play and justice and it will not bow down for any undue pressure from vested interests.

It was alleged that a cleaning contract has been given by the commissioner, when 12 garbage trucks were already procured for the purpose.

Regarding the donation of sewing machines to the needy people, the governor said his office had carefully chosen deserving women who would earn their living through self-help projects with the help of these machines.
