Schools In Western Province To Open From Today

Colombo, 06 May, (Asiantribune.com):

Provincial schools in the western province, will re-opened on Monday ,6th May, as scheduled, Western Province Governor M. Azath Salley announced.

The governor has instructed all the zonal directors of education in his province to ensure proper security in these institutions and he had also called for intensive security inspection in all schools in cooperation with the police stations in the respective areas. Salley also said that such arrangements should be carried out continuously. He warned the zonal directors that they will be held responsible for any security lapses in the schools.

Salley also urged the Ministry of Education to employ at least one day- night watcher in each school. He said he will take it up with Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam regarding a revised school timing.

On Thursday, the governors met with the members of the police, tri-forces, provincial council senior officers who deal with health, education and logistics areas.

Salley said schools and universities have been requested to streamline the traffic when the students return to school following the April holidays.

Vehicles coming to drop children could stop by only for a maximum duration of one minute. “ The same rule will apply when the students return from school,” he stressed, seeking the cooperation of all parents as well as motorists. He added the police and the traffic departments have been duly informed.

The management of 10 schools have already set up ‘Drop by Bay’ for the convenience of the motorists.
