WP Governor meets Ven Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero

Colombo, 23 May, (Asiantribune.com):

Western Province Governor Azath Salley said here on Wednesday that he expects an early release of Bodu Bala Sena General Secretary Ven Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero from the prisons.

The governor was addressing the media at the entrance to the Welikada Prisons in Colombo following his meeting with the venerable Thero in the morning on Wednesday.

“ We have made representations to the President Maithripala Sirisena for his release from the jail,” the governor said, pointing out that the Thero’s predictions about extremism have become true.

“ Whatever, religious differences we had with the Thero were sorted out and amicably settled before he was sent to the prisons,” Salley noted, adding that plans had been underway during that time to form a committee between the two communities to work for peaceful co-existence to forge ahead for national development.

The governor also said that the time has come for the people to shed all differences and colors and work together for the progress and prosperity of the nation.

The Prisons Department has submitted a report on Bodu Bala Sena General Secretary Ven Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero to the Presidential Secretariat yesterday (May 21).

The report which contained details on the Thero's imprisonment term and remarks on his discipline while in prison had been submitted as per the instructions issued by the Presidential Secretariat.It is reported that a copy of the report has been sent to the Ministry of Justice and Prisons Reforms.
