LTTE Transport base raided and destroyed

Colombo, 25 January, ( Sri Lanka Air force bombed and destroyed another LTTE base in Kilinochchi.

According to defense sources, Sri Lanka Air Force supersonic jets bombed a LTTE transport base in Kilinochchi around 7.30 am this morning.

In the meantime LTTE news websites revealed that when LTTE anti-aircraft guns fired at the attacking fighter jets, they managed to fly at a higher altitude unscathed.

The LTTE news websites reported, "Liberation Tigers anti-aircraft unit rushed to the area and opened fire, when SLAF fighter jets swooped over the suburb, forcing the planes to higher altitudes."

The LTTE Peace Secretariat in its news release said that in the aerial raid eight bombs were dropped on a small civilian settlement. It added “Attendance at the Kilinochchi schools is very poor today as children kept away from school fearing further bombing.”

Air Force sources confirmed that air sorties were conducted at 7.30 a.m and successfully targeted LTTE base located at 2Km south west of depot junction in Selvanagar, located in Kilinochchi.

Wing Commander Andy Wijesooriya, Air Force spokesperson said “The air raid was launched based on information received through intelligence sources and air surveillances conducted for a long period.”

According to the report by the LTTE Peace Secretariat, "More deaths were avoided as people took cover in their backyard trenches."

Peace Secretariat further added: "The injured civilians Suppaiyah Paramasivam (male) aged 60, Selvanayakam Anita (female) aged 20 and Muthukumaran (male) aged 75 were admitted in Kilinochchi general hospital."
