A landmark hotel in the kingdom

By S.H.Moulana

InterContinental Riyadh is a landmark hotel in the kingdom having been opened in early nineteen seventies.
It was the first five-star hotel to function in Saudi Arabia then.

It was the automatic choice for all VVIP functions and weddings.

Its conference hall known as the King Faisal Hall has seen many strategic international conferences being held there.
It’s first General Manager was Raymond Khalife who later became the Vice President of InterContinental chain.

Tariq Dowidar the current General Manager is in charge of all government owned hotels in Saudi Arabia.

Many who have served this hotel still remain loyal and sentimentally attached for the memorable time they have spent with the legendary managers in this five-star facility.

In the early part of this hotel when late Yasin Marikar was its first Chief Engineer, 140 out of the 550 staff were Sri Lankans, whose contribution is still being spoken about.

For some of the former staff members having their Eid lunch at this premier five-star hotel has become still a tradition.

Here you see a family of the former staffer on the Eid day proudly facing the camera.
