Exchange of culture

London’s gun epidemic has reached unprecedented levels and there have been 86 deaths in the capital since the start of 2019.

Last year was London’s bloodiest in a decade – when the number of homicides reached 132 – and it shows no signs of abating.

To start the account for the new year Charlette Huggins was stabbed to death in London just after 4 am on January 1, 2019.

Very recently a 52- year- old lawyer was stabbed to death with a screwdriver in an unprovoked attack, by seven teens as young as 14. As of August 15, it has reached 86 knife related violent deaths.

Our island wide violent deaths are mostly gun- related and has beaten the London figures by many folds. We are in for a frightening number if we were to add the innocent lives lost through the vicious terror attacks by some misguided lot.

What we are trying to say here is that those criminals in the West have abandoned the sophisticated guns, manufactured in their countries and have gone for our local criminals’ good old tradition of knives. In the meantime, the West’s guns have replaced the knives here.

Even in the U.S, it is reported that there have been few stabbings of late.

Former British prime minister Theresa May disgusted with the frequent stabbings in the capital said ‘knife crime devastates communities.’

The alarming factor is that most cases are unprovoked and as it is nobody is safe from a totally unexpected attack by adventure seeking criminals.
