The controversial Tiran Alles got into politics after Mangala Samaraweera became the campaign manager for President Mahinda Rajapaksa (2004-2005). He was later accused of fomenting a pact, the Rajapaksa-LTTE pact, that led to the boycott of the 2005 elections in the north and east of the country, thus allowing Rajapaksa' victory.

Tiran Prasanna Christopher Alles, also referred to as Tiran Alles, is the founder and Chairperson of Ceylon Newspapers (Pvt) Limited. Tiran’s combined 75 percent of shares in the company at Ceylon Newspapers (Pvt) Limited and Apogee Holdings (Pvt) Limited, enables him to have a significant control over Ceylon Newspapers (Pvt) Limited.

(Quote):After Aloysius informed, at about 8 p.m., that he was coming, security personnel had been instructed to allow him to enter the residence directly.

According to information received by ‘Ceylon Today’, when Aloysius arrived at Wickremesinghe's residence, another person had been present there.

Wickremesinghe had ushered Aloysius into another room in the house, and had accepted the bag containing Rs 75 million. After around half an hour, Aloysius had left the Wickremesinghe's residence. (End of Quote)
