Sri Lanka’s Presidential Election Date Gazetted
The Special Gazette Notification released yesterday reveals that, the date for the Presidential elections has been set as the 16th of November, 2019.
Further, the nominations for the elections will be called from the 07th of October, 2019.
Reportedly, the nomination applications can only be submitted between 9 am until 11 am on October 7. . There will be a two week-period for nominations.
Also, cash deposits could be made in view of the elections till noon on October 6 between 9 a.m and 11 a.m.
The Commission took this decision in keeping with the election law.
So far, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and the National People's Power alliance have nominated former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake as their presidential candidates respectively.
In the meantime, UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said that the party, together with its allies, would decide on its presidential candidate next week.
