Riyadh accords fitting farewell to an outstanding ambassador

By S.H.Moulana

Sri Lankan expatriate community in Riyadh gathered in huge numbers to accord a grand farewell to the outgoing ambassador, Azmi Thassim, at Al Qassar Holiday Inn on Saturday the 25th January.

It was really heartening to see the unity among all communities who took part in organizing this great event which was filled with speeches and cultural shows to be followed by a dinner.

I had the opportunity of attending some of the previous 13 farewells accorded to outgoing ambassadors in Riyadh and this was undoubtedly the most outstanding one.

This indeed reflects the selfless service the ambassador has rendered to Sri Lankan expatriate community in Saudi Arabia irrespective of their status.

Speakers after speakers pointed out the services rendered by Azmi Thassim including promoting our tea and tourism.

Former U.S national security adviser, Colin Powell once said ‘A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.’

And this is what exactly guided Azmi Thassim for his success which won everyone’s heart.
