Coronavirus patients’ tally rose to 159 while death of 5th person reported today

Colombo, 04 April, (Asiantribune.com):

While another COVID-19 patient has succumbed to the virus bringing the total fatalities in the country to 5., the number of coronavirus patients detected in Sri Lanka rose to 159.

According to Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe, the 5th This coronavirus death is reported from the Welikanda Hospital. The deceased has been identified as a 40-year-old who had returned from Italy recently.

In the meantime, the Health Ministry said that eight patients were conformed with the virus today taking the number of confirmed cases from 151 recorded day before yesterday to 159.

The Health Promotion Bureau said that another 250 individuals are in hospital on suspicion that they had contracted the virus.

The total number of recovered patients stands at 22, while 250 individuals are currently under observation at selected hospitals.

Curfew Violations

By the way, more than 11,000 people have been arrested for violation of police curfew as of this afternoon since March 20, police said.

They said a total of 11,019 people were arrested and 2,727 vehicles had also been taken into police custody during this period.

Yesterday it was reported that Police opened fire at a motor car which was travelling disobeying the police orders to stop at Egoda-Uyana, Moratuwa, police said.

They said four people in the vehicle were arrested while three of them, who were injured in the shooting, were hospitalized.

Two of the injured are undergoing treatment at the Panadura Hospital while the other was transferred to the Colombo National Hospital.

Police said the injured aged between 18 and 22 were residents of Panadura and Battaramulla.

According to the initial investigations, one of the injured had been in remanded custody in 2018 over possession of heroin and another injured had also been in remand custody in 2017 and 2019 over heroin case and drug trafficking.

Investigations are underway to determine whether they were transporting narcotics at the time of the incident.
