On PCR tests conducted so far

By Manjari Peiris

It has been decided to conduct PCR tests on those leaving the quarantine centres as well after completing their quarantine period, said Dr. Ananda Wijewickrema of the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH).

According to Dr. Wijewickrema, facilities are available to conduct 1500 tests for COVID - 19 per day, at government hospitals and universities. But such a requirement has not arisen so far. However, now there is an increase in PCR tests and nearly 500 such tests have been conducted.

Dr. Wijewickrema was of the opinion that PCR tests should not be conducted unnecessarily and that the persons who have been identified to undergo it compulsorily are directed for the tests.
