Special Account under special concessions for Sri Lankans living overseas

Sri Lanka government has opened a special account under special concessions for Sri Lankans living overseas and other expatriates who have liquid excess currency to deposit their money, Co-Cabinet spokesman Dr. Bandula Gunawardena stated. 300

He further explained that those who deposit in this account could be ensured that it is a more profitable investment if they are held as a minimum six-month deposit.

In order to restrict foreign exchange leaving the country, those leaving the country should be controlled and it is the responsibility of the Central Bank who should mediate to prevent the rupee from depreciating it further, the Minister pointed out.

Dr. Gunawardena also mentioned that the import of some luxury items have already been restricted. Others have been banned. He appealed importers to refrain from opening Letters of Credit to import unnecessary items which would help in protecting the rupee value.
