Sri Lanka: COVID-19 cases tally to 1,028

Colombo, 21 May, (Asiantribune.com)

A total of 5 patients has tested positive for COVID-19 as of 10.15 pm on Wednesday (20), says the Ministry of Health.

The total count of coronavirus cases in the country thereby reached 1,028.

In the meantime, coronavirus recoveries in the country moved up to 584 earlier today.

The Epidemiology Unit says that 435 active cases are currently under medical care at selected hospitals across the country.

The country’s death toll from COVID-19 stands at 09.

In the meantime, 230 people who were undergoing quarantine at several facilities across the country were released after testing negative for COVID-19.

Accordingly, a total of 10,103 people were released thus far from quarantine facilities operated by the Armed Forces.

Acting Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said 3519 people are currently undergoing quarantine at 37 quarantine facilities in Sri Lanka.

He said in total 578 sailors attached to the Sri Lanka Navy tested positive for COVID-19 and 221 of them were discharged from hospital following complete recovery.

357 sailors are currently undergoing treatment at multiple hospitals across the country.

The Army Commander said Sri Lankans would be repatriated from various countries in the coming days, especially from Russia and the countries in that region.
