By Manjari Peiris
Colombo, 15 July, (Asiantribune.com):

Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi yesterday answered a question raised by UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe regarding the use of foreign financial assistance received to curb the Covid 19 epidemic.

Meanwhile, Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi responded to the allegations made by UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe on several occasions regarding the money received by the Ministry of Health from foreign countries for the Covid 19 pandemic. She further said that she has no time to waste repeating the same in replying Ranil Wickremasinghe.

WHO's report clearly states that it has only allocated a sum or USD 1.9 million for Sri Lanka. Further WHO has stated that they would provide another USD 2.3 million for expenses next year. Therefore the statement made by Ranil Wickremasinghe is false, the Minister said. "The World Bank provided us with a USD 230 million loan and these funds were provided to combat the spread of COVID 19."

“A sum of USD 855,869 has already been utilized in line with the COVID-19 program in the country,” the statement read adding that all expenses are monitored by the resident office of the WHO.
