The Colombo District Court on Tuesday issued an enjoining order preventing the Sri Lanka Freedom Party from suspending PA MP A. H. M. Fowzie as a member of the party based on the "show cause" letter sent by President Chandrika Kumaratunga, until a full inquiry is conducted.

Colombo July 17: Defence Ministry today waived the requirement that persons holding foreign passports should obtain clearance to travel by air to Jaffna. The decision was taken at a meeting, the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) leaders had with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Defence Minister Tilak Marapone, defence officials and service chiefs.

<b>Two SLMM Monitors held against their will onboard a LTTE vessel</b>

Joseph Thavarajah- Our Special Reporter: Colombo July 15: A serious violation of the Ceasefire Agreement between the Government of Sri
Lanka and the LTTE, occurred on Saturday afternoon, when two LTTE trawlers,
at least one with an Indian registration number, entered Sri Lankan
territorial waters in Palk Bay, south of Jaffna peninsula. The Sri Lankan
Navy (SLN) intercepted the two trawlers at 17.45. One of the trawlers fled
from the scene and managed to leave the SLN vessels and the other trawler
behind by going through shallow water and go ashore close to Devil’s Point.
At the same time the second trawler was adrift close to Iranativu Islands in
Palk Bay being closely monitored by SLN vessels.

<b>Tyronne to play India’s messenger role</b>

Foreign Minister Tyronne Fernando will take advantage of a four-day official visit to Islamabad beginning today (14) to deliver a message from India’s new Foreign Minister Yashwant Sinha to his Pakistan counterpart Inam Ul Haq, official sources said yesterday.
