Norway does not back "self-rule for Tamils" as stated by the Indian magazine

Colombo, 30 March, (Asiantribune.com): Embarrassed by media reports that Norway was backing "self-rule" for the Tamils of Sri Lanka the Royal Norwegian Foreign Ministry released the written question and answer to prove that Erik Solheim who gave the interview to the Indian magazine Tehelka never made such a statement.

The Norwegian Foreign Ministry denial said that the Indian “journalist has taken his own assertions and questions and presented them as quotations attributed to Mr Solheim." It added: "Statements on the harassment of Tamils and the allegedly biased role of the US Government should not in any way be attributed to Mr Solheim."

This distorted report was published in LTTE media outlets. TamilNet – the mouthpiece of the LTTE. -- has not carried the denial so far.

Several media reports over the last couple of days have been based on an interview done in writing that Norwegian Minister of International Development, Mr Erik Solheim, gave to the Indian magazine Tehelka.
