Norway refuses to respect EU's list of terrorists

Oslo, 05 January, ( Norwegian Foreign Minister, Jonas Gahr Støre declared in a press statement issued on 04 January, that Norway will not respect the list of terrorist organizations banned by the European Union. Reason: this will make it difficult for Norwegian involvement in peace processes.

Støre has added that it will respect only the UN list of terrorists organizations. He also states that Norway is against all forms of terrorism.

"We believe that the role Norway can play in various peace processes means we act in accordance with the UN list, and so we cannot be linked to other lists. We will continue to have a close cooperation with the EU on terror, but we are not a member of the EU and have not had a part in composing their lists," Gahr Støre told left-wing newspaper Klassekampen. Støre feels that following the EU terror list could prevent some of Norway's peace brokering efforts because possible discussion partners could end up on such a list.
