Outrageous gifts To the former Sri Lankan President

Though it was a sad incident that Chandrika Kumaratunga, the former President of Sri Lanka lost an eye in an LTTE attack, but it was pointed out "then, many thousands have lost their lives at the hands of the Tigers and the recompense to their families was paltry in comparison to the enormous sum of 350 million rupees," writes Dr. W.Y.Rambukwelle.

In a letter to the Editor, Asian Tribune, Dr. W.Y.Rambukwelle, from New Zealand has castigated the former Sri Lanka’s President for accepting a plot of prime land in Colombo, valued at Sri Lankan Rupees 350 million as the parting gift

He further pointed out in his letter, "Despite virtually limitless powers as Executive President for eleven long years she did practically nothing to alleviate Sri Lanka's sorry state - bribery, corruption, poverty, sky-rocketing cost of living, poor State health system, terrible public transport service and roads, rising organized crime and lawlessness and the widespread drug menace."
