By Iqbal Hussain Khan Yousafzai – Reporting from Islamabad

Islamabad, 18 February, (Asiantribune.com): Pakistan Friday recalled its ambassador from Copenhagen as Denmark temporarily shut its embassy in Islamabad following fresh protests against blasphemous cartoons.

Pakistan cited the cartoons issue in its decision to recall its ambassador but did not explicitly link it to the shutdown of the Danish mission.

"Pakistan's ambassador in Copenhagen, Mr Javed A. Qureshi, has been called to Islamabad for consultations over the cartoon controversy," foreign ministry spokeswoman Tasneem Aslam told reporters in Islamabad.

Several European ambassadors attended the foreign office to be informed of the situation, a diplomatic source said.

Danish ambassador Bent Wigotski said: "I am still in Pakistan so there is no talk of breaking relations."
