By Iqbal Hussain Khan Yousafzai – Reporting from Islamabad

Islamabad, 23 March, (Asiantribune.com): Pakistan has confirmed first cases of the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu or Avian Influenza that has already hit neighboring India and Afghanistan.

Officials said that tests have proved that the virus has been detected in chickens in two farms in North-West Frontier Province of the country bordering with Afghanistan.

The officials said that both the farms have now been sealed off to prevent spread of the deadly disease to other parts of the country.

The presence of the strain was confirmed by the European Union's Reference Laboratory for Avian Influenza in England.
