[b]President Rajapakse replaces Chandrika as SLFP president[/b]

[b]Colombo, 08 April, (Asiantribune.com): [/b]The Bandaranaikes are on the way out. The new leadership of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party is moving slowly but surely into the hands of the Rajapakses.

This was confirmed last Thursday when the National Convention of the SLFP decided to appoint President Mahinda Rajapakse as the Acting Chairman of the party. Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake proposed the named of President Rajapakse to the position of the Acting Chairmanship. It was seconded by the United People's Alliance General Secretary, D. M. Jayaratne. SLFP General Secretary, Maithripala Sirisena, announced the appointment of President Rajapakse as the Acting chairman of the SLFP.

When the SLFPers proposed the name of President Rajapakse as the Acting Chairman Anura Bandaranaike got up and left the premises without even waiting to listen to the President’s speech. In his speech, President Rajapakse said that the SLFP is not the private property of the Bandaranaikes.
