[b]Ranil clinches support of two minority’s parties in the presidential election.[/b]

[b]Colombo, 05 October, (Asiantribune.com):[/b] Ranil Wickremasinghe, the opposition party candidate in the forthcoming Sri Lanka’s Presidential election has clinched the support of the two key minority political parties.

At a media conference held today, Arumugam Thondaman, Leader of the Ceylon Workers Congress announced that his party has decided to support Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Leader of the United National Party in the forthcoming Presidential elections, to be held on 17th November and would withdraw from all portfolios held in the government and the two CWC ministers will resign as soon as the President returns to the island.

Earlier on Tuesday, Rauf Hakeem, Leader of Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) told the media that his party had decided to back Ranil Wickremasinghe, the candidate of the United National Party.

Arumugam Thondaman, Leader of the Ceylon Workers Congress, which enjoys strong support among upcountry Tamils, said “In coming to this decision, we have considered the prospect for permanent peace and national development in the country.”
