Ranil writes to President: Don't dissolve existing local government bodies

From our Colombo correspondent

Colombo, 21 February, (Asiantribune.com): As the country prepares for the March 30 Local Polls, Opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday wrote to President Mahinda Rajapakse requesting not to dissolve the existing local government bodies under emergency regulations.

Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremsinghe made this request yesterday to the President, as the President was reportedly taking steps to dissolve all the Local Government bodies and planning to delegate the powers with Divisional Secretaries and Commissioner of Local bodies.

Opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe in his letter to the President pointed out that the administration of all Local Government bodies can be run without any dissolution under the elections laws until the elections are held to elect members for these councils.
