On 13th October 1798, Ferederic North reported to the Court of Directors for Affairs of the Honorable United Company of Merchants of England, trading to East India, at their House in London Hall Street, London thus;

"Ceylon, dated 13th Oct. 1798.

Honble Sirs,

1. I have the honor of informing you that I arrived here yesterday morning about nine O’clock after a stoppage twelve days on board of the Intrepid Crazier, with which the Government of Bombay was so obliging and to accommodate me.

2. On my arrival, I had His Majesty's Commission read on the parade, in the Government House, took the oaths appointed by His Majesty’s instruction, together with one of fidelity to your Honorable Company in presence of General De Meuron and other principal civil and other military officers.
