RSS chief in eye of a storm with his call to Hindus to produce more children

By M Rama Rao - Reporting from New Delhi

New Delhi, 19 November, ( The chief of Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh, the fountainhead of Hindu fundamentalist groups is in the eye of a raging storm with his call to Hindus to produce more children.

"Follow three-child norm as against the two-child norm of the government", K S Sudarshan told a gathering here after releasing a book on population statistics according to religion.

His argument is that more Hindus are necessary to balance the growing population of Muslims in the country.

"If any mother comes and blesses me, I tell them to have at least three children," said Sudarshan, caliming, "The increase in the population of Muslims and Christians has threatened the sovereignty of India and so Hindus should also look to increase their numbers".

"Don't get into the trap of two child or one child norm. If you go by the one child norm, in the next 120 years, there won't be any successors in your family. You should not have less than three children and if you have more, the merrier it is", he said. Lesser children would create demographic imbalance.
