Colombo, 19 December, (Asiantribune.com): The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission in a press release slammed the LTTE for the unsuccessful assassination bid on the Italian Foreign Delegation.

"The helicopter, while en route, was fired upon when it was approximately ten Nautical Miles from Arugam Bay, approximately 6 – 8 Km south of Rufus Kulam Tank. Luckily the helicopter did not crash and managed to return to Ampara Air Base where it landed safely.

This incident clearly comes under the CFA in which the Parties are stated responsible for all military activity in the areas under their control including avoidance of hostile acts against each other. Furthermore, according to Article 1.2 of the CFA, neither Party shall engage in any offensive military operation. This requires the total cessation of all offensive military action and includes, but is not limited to, such acts as firing of direct and indirect weapons, armed raids and ambushes." the press release said.
