Q Perera - Reporting from Colombo

Colombo, 17 December, ( As Unilever Chairman Antony Burgmans has stated, ‘Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is not something we do to the society. It is an integral part of everything we do’. In line with their commitment to be a responsible and committed corporate citizen, Unilever Sri Lanka Ltd (USL), is sponsoring the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, Sri Lanka (CIMA)/The Business Club Community Leader Awards 2006. This was the view expressed by Dr Anura Ekanayake, Human resources and Corporate Relations Director, USL at the occasion of USL accepting the sponsorship of CIMA/BC Community Leader Awards 2006 held at Galadari Hotel.

Dr Ekanayake said that companies receive awards not due to the work only by their Chairmen or Board of Directors, but really due to the team effort and the hard-work of the rank and file of the organization and people look for companies which are responsible and who care for the community around them.

CIMA and BC together with Unilever Sri Lanka are initiating Community Leader Awards 2006 which will focus on Education in the second consecutive year 2006, selecting private sector companies that have provided benefits and leadership to communities in this field. UNICEF is working with CIMA/BC and are supporting the Awards Programme. The UN Global Compact has also expressed support to this prestigious awards Scheme.
