[b]Sri Lanka: Emergency extended for another month.[/b]

[b]Colombo, 26 November, (Asiantribune.com): [/b]The state of emergency was extended by one more month, after it was taken up for discussion in the Sri Lanka Parliament yesterday. A total of 84 voted in favour of the extension and 15 against it.

Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake presented the motion to the Parliament and said that Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam has killed more than 21 persons including members of the armed forces in the previous month.

He further said that 21 civilians were abducted and a large number of civilians were injured in the clashes started by the Tamil Tigers.

The UNP, JVP and the JHU voted for the proposal with the Government. The Tamil National Alliance, Upcountry People’s Front, CWC and UNP Parliamentarian T Maheshwaran voted against it.
