Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission to suspend temporarily

[b]Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission to suspend temporarily activities of its Trincomalee office.[/b]

[b]Colombo, 18 January, (Asiantribune.com):[/b] Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission yesterday informed that it has decided to suspend temporarily its operational activities in Trincomalee. The SLMM runs a district office in Trincomalee and a contact point in Muttur.

“Following the recent escalation of violence in Trincomalee, culminating in the bomb attack against a SLN bus earlier today, the SLMM has decided to suspend operational activities in Trincomalee until further notice, “ SLMM said in a press release.

The Press release further added "It is important to underline that the suspension is limited to Trincomalee district only and we plan to resume normal monitoring activities as soon as the situation calms down."

In the meantime SLMM Chief Hagrup Haukland met yesterday S.P.Tamilselvan, Political Division Head of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam at Kilinochchi.
