By Munza Mushtaq – Reporting for Asian Tribune

Colombo, 04 February, (Asiantribune.com): President Mahinda Rajapakse will hoist the National flag at exactly 9.08 a.m today as Sri Lanka marks 58 years of Independence. The main ceremony will be held at the Galle Face Green on a grand scale in comparison to last year's celebrations which was carried out on a low key scale due to the tsunami catastrophe.

Incidentally this will be the first time since 1978 that a National Day celebration will be held at the Galle Face Green, in the recent past Independence Day celebrations have always been held at the Independence Square, situated at Colombo 7.

Meanwhile, during today's ceremony a two minutes silence will be observed in honor of all patriots who sacrificed their lives to protect the freedom, sovereignty and the territorial integrity of Sri Lanka.
